Villagers with torches

I thought you might enjoy this pick of actual villagers with torches at the annual bonfire celebration in Lewes.

  1. All they need now is some pitchforks and an angry disposition. ;-)

  2. Ha! I used to live there a few years back. I remember one Nov. 5th following after one of the parades and finding a real bona fide burning torch dropped on the street, which the D&D fan in me found incredibly cool! Of course I picked it up, only to be frowned at by a nearby policeman. At first I had no idea why he wanted me to put it down again, as (I thought) hundreds of other people were carrying them. Then it dawned on me that the hundreds of others were probably all "approved procession members" or whatever, and that anyone else running around through the streets at night carrying a flaming club would be regarded as a vandal or hoodlum. :)

Bonfire night is one of the best things in the UK! I miss it...
